We are making our way to Dulles by way of Richmond and Charlotte's family. A ten hour flight through Istanbul (where I am excited about eating real kabob) followed by a 6 hour flight to Nairobi. Wheels down 1 am local. Today has been a tough day of goodbyes. 4 months isn't that long, but the distance works as a magnifier. At least family and friends understand we will be coming back. Hard to know that our puppy Campbell doesnt understand that we will be coming back for her.
Please pray that we travel well and acclimate to a new culture smoothly.

The Final Countdown
Mark Davis asked what sort of blog to expect from rippys around the world. For starters, a blog of imperfection and frustration. For example, when the posts come from the iPad you can expect to see rip us around the world. Horray auto correct. You can also expect frustration because I may very well title a post in reference to a catchy song from the band Europe, and even though I failed to link to the live version of Final Countdown, the song is now frustratingly in your head. Hopefully this blog will keep you up to date and mildly amused.
So this is the Final Countdown for Charlotte and I before we leave for Kenya. We are leaving Tuesday night, and are trying to tie up all the loose ends. I have taken it upon myself to prepare for our time in Kenya by making us live off a gas generator, and sleeping in mosquito netting. (Irene may or may not have inspired this training)
So your job is to pray for us and the loose ends, and that we do not fray in the process. So to recap, the blog's not perfect, and neither are it's writers, but hopefully God will use both for His glory.

Two Sentence Update
We* are going to Kenya for the fall so that John can finish** seminary and Charlotte can do some excellent mission work. In order to go, we have had to ask our bosses to let us leave and come back, and fix and rent our home. It seems we have cleared these obstacles.
*John and Charlotte
** Just about
